NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – No. 36 Averett University men's tennis was defeated 7-0 at the hands of T-No. 24 Christopher Newport University on Sunday afternoon at the Eyre Courts.
Christopher Newport (3-0) dispatched Averett (0-2) early in doubles, although most had a fight in their matches.
Sam Egui and
Rafael Jodas lost 6-4 to Nesh Kumaresan and Gabe Smith, while
Florian Bert and
Alex Donnelly went the distance, but fell 7-5 to Rainer Christensen and Nathan Russell.
The Captains won the next six matches in singles to wrap up their win.
The Cougars get nearly two weeks for a turnaround, opening up ODAC match play on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Randolph-Macon College. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
