DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University men's lacrosse lost 22-3 to visiting Virginia Wesleyan University, 22-3 on Saturday afternoon at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Virginia Wesleyan (9-2, 3-1 ODAC) scored first, and routed its way to a 9-0 lead before the first quarter concluded. Averett (0-10, 0-4 ODAC) got its opening score from junior
Connor Boyd midway through the second quarter to put the Cougars on the board. However, the visiting Marlins' offense hummed for the remaining quarters en route to the road victory.
The fourth quarter was closest, as Averett scored its most goals in that frame, both of which came from senior
Emmett Wood.
Wood led the team in scores, points, and ground balls, with two on the former, and six scoops on the afternoon. Freshman
Erick Quintanilla tallied his first collegiate point with an assist. Freshman
Caleb Offner had two caused turnovers.
