CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Averett University men's golf showed out on Friday at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate hosted by Oglethorpe University. With round one in the books, the Cougars are tied for fifth place out of 24 competing teams, three-over-par 72 at the Paradise Point Gold Course.
Sophomore
Benjamin Afzelius had the best round out of the bunch, as he is tied for fifth individually with a two-under par score, one of just 15 golfers to have a score below par. Freshman
Lukas Newton scored par and is tied for 16th.
Freshman
Nicolas Santoso shot two-over and is tied for 34th amongst individuals. Freshman
Chase Myers had a three-over round and is tied for 46th, and sophomore
Zach Alway concluded Averett's day with an eight-over round.
Hosts Oglethorpe lead the team standings, as the Stormy Petrels have a par score as a team. Swarthmore College's Dylan Zhang and John Carroll University's Daniel Donahue currently lead all golfers with a five-under score.
The Cougars return for round two tomorrow.
