CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Averett University women's golf sits in seventh place in a competitive field after the opening round at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate at the Paradise Point Scarlet Course on Friday afternoon. The Cougars are currently a collective 54-over-par 284.
Senior
Sophia Marshall is in the driver's seat, as she shot an impressive two-over-par on day one, which is good for tied-third in the field of 60 golfers competing. Marshall accounted for four birdies, and eight par shots through her round. Fellow senior
Hannah Walton was Averett's next best finisher, 13-over, tied for 25th.
Sophomore
Meredith Pegram is at a plus-17 mark, tied for 37th, while junior
Cooper Perryman is tied for 47th after a 22-over round one.
Hosts Oglethorpe University have both the team and individual lead, as the Stormy Petrels' Elizabeth Powell completed a par afternoon, while her squad is 20-over, seven shots better than second-place Virginia Wesleyan University.
The Cougars return for round two tomorrow morning.
