DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University women's tennis had the best day of celebrations, as the Cougars swept Sweet Briar, 7-0 on its Senior Day match on Saturday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Before the match, Averett honored seniors from both the men's and women's tennis teams, including Sam Egui, Alex Donnelly,
Elisa Battermann,
Harshri Asher,
Brenda Poulakidas, and
Annika Kellerer.
Into doubles action, the Cougars (13-3, 8-1 ODAC) won each match 6-1, easily claiming the doubles point.
Averett went into singles with full steam ahead, and also won all six matches thereafter against Sweet Briar (2-11, 1-8 ODAC). Poulakidas made headlines with her 100th career singles victory over Alex Guilarte, 6-3, 6-0. All other seniors won successfully, and
Ella Boddington and
Ana Herrera featured, as well. Both won their matches with double sweeps.
The Cougars await their opponent in the upcoming ODAC tournament, beginning on Wednesday, Apr. 29.
