No. 64 men’s tennis advance to ODAC semifinals with win over Lynchburg

DANVILLE, Va. – No. 64 Averett University men's tennis, the third seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's tennis tournament, started its title defense with a 4-1 win against the sixth-seed in the University of Lynchburg on Tuesday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.

Averett (9-7) took two doubles matches for the first dual point. Senior Sam Egui and Rafael Jodas took down Lynchburg's (8-9) Alvaro Quiroga Amaya and Alexandre Gaborardi, 6-3; then junior Alex Rudy and Lucas Fiandra won versus Ricards Spaks and Jorge Patricio Zepeda.

In the singles portion, Egui double-bageled Sebastian Soria, before the Hornets notched a point on the scoreboard. Sophomore Roger Pamies Petit brought the Cougars a point away with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Quiroga Amaya, then sophomore Florian Bert clinched the team's semifinal spot with a three-set thriller over Nicholas Pierreux, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

For Averett, this is its fifth consecutive conference tournament semifinal appearance dating back to the USA South, and have made it to at least the ODAC semifinals in every year since the school joined the conference.

The Cougars will face second-seeded and 39th-ranked Shenandoah University next on Saturday, May 2. Start time at Washington and Lee University's Outdoor Tennis Courts is set for 11 a.m.
