LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two of Averett University softball's best were named to the 2026 NFCA Division III All-Region Team for Region VI on Friday, as juniors Mackenzie Newcomb and Carson Bradsher were voted to the First Team and Second Team, respectively. 

Newcomb, an infielder from Victoria, Virginia, made the first team as a third baseman, where she led the Cougars in doubles, home runs, runs batted in, OPS, slugging percentage, and stolen bases. Selected to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference second team, she led the conference in doubles with 20, which was also sixth best in Division III in the regular season. Her 50 RBIs were third-best in the ODAC, and was one of only six players in the conference to steal four bases in a single game. Newcomb was previously named an ODAC Offensive Player of the Week on March 2, and was named to the NFCA Division III Player and Pitcher of the Year watchlist on Apr. 2.

Bradsher, an infielder from Cedar Grove, North Carolina, was selected as a second-teamer at shortstop, making a seamless transition from the outfield a year prior with an all-star caliber season. Bradsher led Averett and the ODAC in hits and batting average, where those statistics landed first and fifth, respectively. In the national landscape, her hit count was in the top-20, and recorded 70 total bases. Her success on the field led to her second straight All-ODAC first team selection at the conclusion of the season. 

Newcomb and Bradsher join 12 other ODAC players on the All-Region team, the most of any conference represented in Region VI. They also become the 13th and 14th Cougars to be named to the All-Region team, and first selections since 2019, when Hannah Thompson and Kaitlyn Aherron made the list. 

The awards honor student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with selection to one of three teams. NFCA member head coaches nominate and then vote for the winners in their respective region. Coaches may nominate a maximum of eight players from their squad.

All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced May 27 on NFCA.org and the Association's social media accounts.
