BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – For his program record-breaking efforts this past Saturday, Averett football junior defensive back Jeremiah Marks was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week, announced by the organization on Tuesday.

Marks, hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, recorded a trio of interceptions en route to the Cougars' dominant 55-19 home win over Gallaudet University on Sept. 19. He also had three total tackles, and placed himself in the program record books as the first player to record three picks in a single contest.

Through games as of Sept. 19, Marks is atop the Old Dominion Athletic Conference leaderboard in interceptions with three, and is a top-12 player in Division III in passes defended with two. 

Marks' D3football.com weekly honor is Averett's first in nearly three seasons, the last of which was Jahlin Russell in Week 10 of 2023. He is the first Cougar defensive back to be named to the weekly ballot since Bradley Jefferson back in Week 9 of 2017, and the ninth defensive player in school history to nab a spot on the list.

Marks becomes the program's 40th all-time D3football.com national weekly team selection, dating back to 2003.
