IDA Team
The mission of IDA is to introduce students to the equestrian discipline of dressage and to foster continued development, understanding and appreciation in the art of dressage through organized student competitions and educational opportunities.
Averett University’s IDA team competes in Region I, alongside Wake Forest University, University of South Carolina Aiken, St. Andrews University, and North Carolina State University.
IDA competitions are comprised of teams of four riders from each school, competing individually in test rides at Introductory Level, Lower Training Level, Upper Training Level, and First Level. IDA riders also have the opportunity to compete in Dressage Seat Equitation classes, focusing on position and equitation. At each show, collegiate riders compete on the host colleges horses, providing an extra challenge to the competition.
For over 15 years, Averett University has qualified, and been represented, at the annual IDA National Championship Competition.
