IHSA Team

Averett University's Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) team competes in Region 4, Zone 5. This region includes Appalachian State University, Elon University, Lenior-Rhyne University, Emory and Henry, Wake Forest University, High Point University, University of North Carolina-Greensboro, Virginia Tech and Western Carolina University.

There are generally four IHSA shows in the fall semester and three IHSA shows in spring semester. At each of these regular season shows, riders are competing to earn points by way of their placings in their classes. Once they have reached the required amount of points for the level they currently show in, they have qualified for Regionals. The post season is then followed by the Zone and National IHSA competitions.

At each show, riders randomly draw from the select horses in their level, to compete. IHSA is a wonderful opportunity for riders to experience all different kinds of horses and learn to quickly adapt their riding to each one.
The mission of the IHSA is to provide equestrian competition for all college and university students regardless of riding level, gender, race, sexual orientation or financial status. The IHSA is dedicated to promote sportsmanship, horsemanship and academic excellence.

The Averett University IHSA team has been competitive, with many riders qualifying for Regionals and Zones each season.
