How Averett helped me:
"Enrolling at Averett University gave me the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream of playing collegiate football. I could not imagine the amount of hard-work, dedication, effort, and commitment it would take to even stay on the team, let alone do what I did to actually play and be a starter for 4 years. But at the end of all of it, I can look back and say it was worth the struggle. Nothing was harder than three hour practices in 95 degree heat in August. Nothing was harder than 20 minute conditioning tests that made you re-think why you did football in the first place. Nothing was harder than reviewing opponent film five hours a week, while also getting 10 hours of studying in. Nothing was harder than off-season 6 a.m. workouts and conditioning, knowing the season was still eight months away. Nothing was harder than losing a close game with 30 plus hours of preparation in a week, all to turn around and start prepping for the next week. But, coming out of all that, whether we as a team were winners or losers, having the feeling of completion was the most satisfying. Having the feeling of improving each week gave me a sense of accomplishment. I learned how to prioritize what really mattered in life and what was just distraction. College football brought out in me the two most important factors you need in the business world: Competitiveness and desire to Improve. I go about each day, each project, each meeting with the mentality of being the best, yet always wanting to improve my craft. Football taught me these things and I feel it will bring me to new heights in the business world. I thank the Averett University Football Team and Coaches for bringing out the best qualities in me, but also making me realize I had the potential in myself to accomplish great things."
