LAGRANGE, Ga. — The 15th-regionally-ranked Averett University men's tennis team had their conference tournament run come to an end with a 9-0 loss to 24th-nationally-ranked N.C. Wesleyan College in the semifinals.
Â
The Battling Bishops (17-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches. The Cougars (14-6) nearly took the No. 1 doubles match as the freshmen pair of Felipe Andreazza and Douwe Sternfeld dropped a close 8-6 match to Ioannis Brokakis and Roberto Puig.
Â
In the singles matches, sophomore Nicolas Yanes and freshman Thomas Woodcock both won their first sets at No. 1 and 6 singles respectively. Unfortunately, their counterparts would go on to win the remaining sets to extend the N.C. Wesleyan lead. The Battling Bishops won the rest of the singles matches in straight sets for the 9-0 victory.

This season marks the third consecutive year that Averett finished with 10 or more wins while also qualifying for the conference tournament.Â
