Cross country competes at Catawba College Fleet Feet Invite

SALISBURY, N.C. The Averett University men's and women's cross country teams raced at the Catawba College Fleet Feet Invite on Saturday morning, with the men's team finishing eighth with a score of 216 and the women's team placing ninth with a score of 231.

In the 8K, the men's team was led by freshman Chandler Lowell, who placed 20th with a time of 28:48.7. Next up for the Cougars was junior Michael Nichols, who clocked in at 49th place with a time of 33:25.9. Rounding out the field for Averett was junior Frank Blevins, senior Hunter LePrell and junior Will Merritt, who finished 68th, 74th and 76th, respectively.

In the 5K, freshman Sydney Fryman led the women's team with a 44th-place finish, clocking in at 25:08.9. Fellow freshmen Rebekah Chase and Ashley Navarro followed closely behind, placing 54th and 55th with times of 27:25.7 and 27:34.7, respectively. Sophomore Kaity Sullivan, junior Jeni Peterson and freshman Kelly King rounded out the field for the Cougars, clocking in at 75th, 77th and 81st, respectively.

After this, Averett gets a week off before heading to the N.C. Wesleyan College Classic on Sept. 21.
