Fredericksburg, Va. — Averett University women's tennis freshman Paula Ryhsen was named the 2021 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division Rookie of the Year and All-State First Team singles as the organization announced its women's tennis awards on Friday.

Ryhsen, a native of Dusseldorf, Germany, was selected to the USA South Conference East Division First Team following a stellar freshman season. Ryhsen finished 15-1 in singles play, including 4-0 at No. 3 single and 9-1 at No. 4 singles with her only singles loss being to a Division II opponent. Additionally, Ryhsen finished 12-4 in doubles, playing either No. 2 or No. 3 and was named USA South Rookie of the Week three times as well as Averett Athletics Night of Champions Freshman Female Athlete of the Year.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
