DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's basketball program fell short 62-60 against North Carolina Wesleyan College on Wednesday night inside the Grant Center.
Averett (4-10, 4-3 USA South) was led by senior
Rana Davis-Robinson who had a career-high 17 points while also adding four steals. Freshman
Jaa Brown was the second leading scorer for the Cougars with 13 points and also tallied seven rebounds.
N.C. Wesleyan (7-7, 5-2 USA South) was led by Kayla Johnson who had a game-high 20 points.
The game was back and forth all night with neither team being able to hang on to a lead after each quarter. The Cougars took control early in the game and led by two headed into the second quarter. The Battling Bishops went on a 7-0 run to end the first half earning a five-point advantage.
The Cougars were able to outscore N.C. Wesleyan 17-11 in the third quarter to even the score headed into the final quarter of play. Neither team earned more then a five-point advantage but a late Johnson three for the Battling Bishops sealed it.
Averett is back in action when it travels to Methodist University Saturday at 2 p.m.
