LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Averett University women's basketball team fell on the road to the University of Lynchburg 67-54 on Wednesday night.
After exchanging leads for most of the first quarter, Lynchburg (6-12, 5-7 ODAC) would go ahead by seven to end the first. Averett's (4-15, 2-10 ODAC) offense would work throughout the second quarter to erase the Hornets lead while the Cougar defense held Lynchburg to just eight points in the second quarter. Averett would head into halftime up by two points from freshman

Lynchburg's offense would score 15 in the third quarter to take the lead and 21 points in the fourth quarter to remain in control for the rest of the game.

Elisa Harris totaled 16 points for the Cougars, marking her eighth time scoring double-digits this season. Freshman

Jihnez Hutchinson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The Cougars were able to hold the Hornets' leading scorer to just two points and one rebound.
As a team, Averett shot 40 percent from behind the arc and 32.6 percent from the field goal range. The Cougars out-rebounded Lynchburg 34 to 33. The Hornets drained 13 three-pointers for its third straight game.
Averett is back in action this weekend when it travels to Randolph-Macon College at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
