BUENA VISTA, Va. - Averett University men's tennis downed Southern Virginia University on the road 7-2 on Thursday afternoon.
Averett (4-3) had an impressive doubles showing, taking all three doubles points over Southern Virginia (5-1).
Junior
Rufus Nurminen and sophomore
Martinho Goncalves teamed up at No. 1 doubles, taking down Marcos Dias and Ethan Campbell 8-4.
At No. 2, senior
Jorge Figueroa and sophomore
Shori Nishizoe downed Marlo Perez and Adam Kelly 8-1.
Completing the sweep at No. 3, freshmen duo
Prabjeet Chandhok and
Kazuki Fukushima defeaed Spencer Knight and Thomas Christensen 8-5.
In singles, freshman
Sam Egui made quick work of SVU's Kelly at No. 6, sweeping his match 6-0,6-0.
At No. 2 singles Figueroa defeated Perez 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Chandhok took down Knight at No 4 singles 7-6(7-4), 6-3.
Junior
Philipp Bohnenkamp picked up an impressive 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles over Christensen.
Averett is back in action on Saturday when it travels to No. 39 Washington and Lee University at 1 p.m.
