Cross country wraps up competition at Pfeiffer Invitational

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Averett University cross country competed in the Pfeiffer University Invitational on Saturday morning.

The women's team kicked things off with a 5K race. Sophomore Gabrielle Griffin once again paced the Cougars, finishing in 13th place with a time of 21:11.3. Junior Alheli Ramos-Garcia crossed the finish line next for Averett, coming home with a 19th place result and a time of 21:50.1. Freshman Sarah Beth Garrett rounded out the Cougars' podium with her 60th place time of 28.28.7. Both Garrett and Griffin raced their way to new personal best marks.

The men's team was led by freshman Hunter Moss for the second time in as many events. Moss placed 11th, crossing the line in 27:21.3. Senior Jaden Carter was the second finishing Cougars' runner, coming home in 33:30.6 to place 67th. Sophomore Ke'Vannio Smith finished third among the Averett men, coming across the line just behind Carter to place 68th with a time of 33:55.5. 

Averett cross country has time to regroup before its next event, which will have the Cougars traveling south to the Queen City in October. The Cougars will run in the Queens University Royals Cross Country Challenge on Friday, Oct. 14, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
