DURHAM, N.C. – The Averett University women's basketball team lost 111-48 at Division I North Carolina Central University on Tuesday afternoon in exhibition fashion.

Averett fell behind to 2024-25 MEAC tournament quarter finalists N.C. Central (3-10) 34-14 through one quarter, and the Eagles rolled through to win a counted contest in which they shot over 50-percent from the field, but were only held to four made triples, the same amount that the Cougars made.

Averett shot better from the charity stripe than the Eagles, 60-percent compared to the home teams' 57.7. Kyjana Jordan and Zariia America led the Cougars in scoring with nine points apiece, and Jy'Lyia Mizell recorded three steals.

The Cougars enter the new year with a large home conference bout, hosting No. 24/RV Shenandoah University on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m.
