WINCHESTER, Va. — Four Cougars scored in double figures as Averett University men's basketball built a double-digit lead and never looked back in a 74-59 road win over Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon.
Averett (5-2, 1-1 ODAC) opened with a 9-3 advantage in the opening minutes, and the Cougars held the lead for a bulk of the first period. Four Averett players had at least seven points in the first half as the Cougars took a 37-27 lead into halftime.
Shenandoah (6-2, 0-2 ODAC) got a basket to start the second half, but Averett rattled off nine consecutive points to push its lead back to double digits. The Cougars kept the Hornets at a distance the rest of the way for their fifth win in the last six games.

Tyler Stephens notched a career-high for the second game in a row, scoring 15 points while grabbing five rebounds. Junior
Josh Seiler also scored in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore
Mason Mitchell had a team-best 11 boards and three assists for Averett.
