BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Averett University men's tennis team faced minor resistance, but remained steady in its first away conference match of the spring, defeating Bridgewater College 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
Bridgewater (1-6, 0-1 ODAC) provided some early scares for Averett (3-2, 2-0 ODAC), pushing the first and second doubles matches to deeper stages, but the Cougars did their part to stave off any might from the Eagles' side.
Rafael Jodas and
Alex Rudy had to fight versus Eli Morela and Mark Gordon, but made it through with a 6-4 clinch.
With the doubles point secured,
Lucas Fiandra, Rudy, and
Julius Bert ensured the win, dropping just a combined three games. Jodas and Bridgewater's Corey Beshoar were the highlight of the day, as Beshoar especially made the first set competive, but Jodas won 7-5, then had an easier second set, taking it 6-2.
The Cougars return back home to the Averett Tennis Courts tomorrow on March 12, hosting Division-II Shaw University for a 1 p.m. start time.
