NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Averett University men's tennis had its hands full on Friday at the Christopher Newport University Invitational at the Eyre Courts. Against a perennially ranked opponent in the Captains, the Cougars grinded out four wins between singles and doubles matches.

Fresh off a third-place finish from their flight draw at Methodist a few weekends back, Lucas Fiandra and Rafael Jodas won a close set tiebreak to dispatch Christopher Newport's Rainer Christiansen and Nathan Russell, 7-6 (7-5).

Over in singles, fellow Methodist singles flight winners Lucas Fiandra and Roger Pamies Petit extended their own respective match streaks with wins over their opponents. Fiandra was pushed to a third set versus Russell, but eventually came through in the clutch with a 10-7 third set super-tiebreak triumph. Roger Pamies won in similar fashion, but rather battled from a set down to defeatedeat the Captains' Ivan Ceric, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.
