LYNCHBURG, Va. – Averett University women's basketball dropped an away ODAC contest on Saturday afternoon, losing 68-30 to the University of Lynchburg.
In its second conference game of the week, Averett (4-8, 0-4 ODAC) took the early lead with an early field goal, and Lynchburg (8-5, 1-3 ODAC) traded buckets with the visitors. The Hornets led 8-6 early, then ended the period on a 6-0 through the likes of Taylor Brown and Kate Littlejohn.
Lynchburg's run extended through periods, along with the Cougars' struggle in the field goal department. Even with Averett's best efforts, the Hornets extended their lead to 18, and got back up to said margin with a layup in the waning moments of the half. Lynchburg led the Cougars 32-14 at the half.
The Cougars' defense kicked into gear, leading in the steal margin 7-2, with
Crishya Sellers and
Kiera Perkins each tabbing two each.
The home team's offense remained in tune through quarter three, as four Hornets scored four-plus points en route to a 23-point period, and the visitors scored five points. Lynchburg's 55-19 lead proved enough to prevail to its first conference win of the 2025-26 campaign.
DaiShaundria Giggetts nearly achieved a double-double with 10 rebounds and eight points, both team highs. Perkins tallied four points and three steals. Averett dominated the offensive glass versus Lynchburg 14-7 and the steal margin 13-5.
Averett returns back home to the Grant Center for the first time this calendar year, hosting Roanoke College on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
