DANVILLE, Va. - The Averett University women's basketball team pushed past Eastern Mennonite University 76-68 on Saturday in the Grant Center.
Averett (4-14, 2-9 ODAC) and Eastern Mennonite (7-10, 2-8 ODAC) would head in to halftime tied at 26-26 after exchanging leads for most of the first half. The Cougars would use a 27-point third quarter to enter the fourth quarter up by eight, Averett would go on an 8-0 run to start the fourth, giving the Cougars their largest lead of the game at 16 points. Eastern Mennonite would slowly chip away at the Cougar lead throughout the fourth quarter to bring the Royals within five points with less than five minutes to go in the game. Averett scored four times in less than a minute to extend their lead to 11. The Cougars would hold on to win by eight points, outlasting the Royals 76-68.

Olivia Garner pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds and score eight points in the win, 11 of those rebounds coming in the second half. Averett's offense saw three score in double digits, junior
Natija Pate led the scoring efforts with 14 points with 10 of those points coming in the second half, Pate also had nine rebounds. Freshman
Elisa Harris scored 11 points while junior
Talia Prosper scored 10 and brought down seven rebounds. Freshman
Rayanna Evans, Garner and Prosper each handed out a team-high three assists.
As a team, Averett out-rebounded the Royals 57-33.
Averett is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to the University of Lynchburg at 5 p.m.
