Averett University Athletics Hall of Fame
Ashley Washington was a four-year member of the women’s basketball program from 2007-2011. Her 1,260 career points rank sixth all-time in program history, and her 840 career rebounds rank third at Averett. Washington was a three-time USA South All-Conference selection, including to the First Team in 2010-11. She twice earned Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State accolades, was named to the D3hoops.com All-South Region Third Team once and the Richmond Times-Dispatch All-State First Team once while garnering USA South All-Tournament Team honors in 2009-10 and USA South Player of the Week multiple times. When inducted in 2020, she also held the Averett career record for offensive rebounds (363), offensive rebounds in a single game (13) and shared the record for free throw percentage in a single game (she went 9-for-9 against Bennett College in 2009). The native of Shelby, North Carolina, is one of nine Cougars to have at least 20 rebounds in a single game (22 vs. Shenandoah in 2011) and at the time of her induction ranked third all-time with a 10.1 career rebounding average to go with a 15.2 scoring average. She recorded 44 double-doubles in 83 career games. Following her senior year, Washington was named Averett’s Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2010-11.
In addition to women’s basketball, Washington also ran cross country during the 2010 season.
In 2014, she was selected as a member of the USA South’s 50th Anniversary women’s basketball team.
Washington was inducted into the Averett Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 17, 2020.
