Shannon Yopp was a standout in two sports during her time at Averett, playing both women's basketball and softball. On the court, Yopp scored 1,294 career points and grabbed 793 rebound in 98 games for the Cougars from 1994-98. Those marks still rank third and fifth, respectively in program history. She earned USA South All-Conference First Team honors twice and Second Team recognition once. Yopp also had a stellar softball career at Averett. In 1996, she was named to the USA South All-Tournament Team at third base and earned 1997 USA South All-Conference Second Team honors as a pitcher. Additionally, she was a member of Averett's 1995 USA South regular season championship team. At the plate, Yopp batted .308 for her career with 112 hits, 63 runs batted in and 52 runs scored in 130 games. In the pitcher's circle, she compiled a 3.52 earned run average and 235 career strikeouts in 107 appearances.

Yopp was named to the USA South's 50th Anniversary women's basketball team in 2013-14.

Yopp was inducted into the Averett Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 15, 2016.
