Toni Karjalainen, who played the men's golf team from 2000-03, was inducted into the Averett Cougar Club Hall of Fame on Aug. 6, 2011, during an induction ceremony in Helsinki, Finland.

Karjalainen played on Averett's 2003 NCAA National Championship team and was an All-America Second Team selection in 2001 and 2002 and a First Team selection in 2003. With Karjalainen's help, Averett made the NCAA Tournament in 2001, 2002 and 2003. He was named to the all-conference first team in 2000 and was on the all-conference second team in 2001. In 2003, Karjalainen was named the conference player of the year. In addition, he was also Cleveland Golf & Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholar in 2003.

In 2013-14, Karjalainen was named to the USA South Conference's 50th Anniversary men's golf team.

Karjalainen graduated from Averett in 2003 and went on to play professional golf.
