Lynn Haden-Smith was a four-year member of the Averett University volleyball team, where she played middle hitter from 1990-93. Smith was an offensive threat for the Cougars, recording 1,378 kills to go along with a .471 attack percentage and 179 service aces. Defensively, Smith lived up to her role as a middle hitter as she posted 900 digs and added 332 solo blocks plus 224 block assists. Adding to her impressive career are four USA South All-Conference First Team Selections, three USA South Conference Player of the Year nods, two USA South All-Tournament MVP honors and an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-South Region selection.

Additionally, she earned All-Conference First Team honors in softball in 1992 and also played on the women's basketball team in 1992-93. 

Haden-Smith was named to the USA South Conference's 50th anniversary volleyball team in 2013 and inducted into the Averett University Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 3, 2015. She was inducted into the USA South Athletic Conference Hall of Fame on June 11, 2019.
