Brenda LaFlamme Taylor starred on the Averett volleyball team from 1994-1997. She was a 1997 American Volleyball Coaches Association Second-Team All-American and a two-time All-South Region selection. The three-time conference player of the year was also named the AVCA National Player of the Week once during her career.

LaFlamme ended her collegiate career with 2,000 kills and 1,865 digs.

LaFlamme was inducted into the Averett University Cougar Club Hall of Fame on Oct. 11, 2003. She was later inducted into the USA South Athletic Conference Hall of Fame on May 6, 2012. She also was named to the USA South's 50th Anniversary volleyball team in 2013.

Since her induction, she became Averett's softball head coach for six seasons, leading the program to a national ranking, a 2015 USA South Conference regular season championship and an NCAA Regional appearance before changing roles within the department. She was named the Director of Operations for Averett's Department of Athletics in May 2016. Taylor’s Director of Operations role incorporates many of the secondary duties she was assigned while serving as softball coach for six seasons. She oversees concessions, gear sales and other areas pertaining to Averett's game day atmosphere, as well as other administrative obligations.

In 2018-19, Taylor was named Averett's Most Outstanding Staff Member of the Year.
